Privacy notice
What is collected when you read this site, why, and how to stop it.
This is a reading site. You do not need an account, and there is nothing here to sign up for. The short version: we do not ask you for personal information, and the only routine data collection is anonymous traffic measurement.
Information you give us
The only way to send us information is to email [email protected]. If you do, we keep your message and address for as long as it takes to deal with it, and we use them only to reply. We do not add correspondents to a mailing list and we do not sell or share contact details.
Information collected automatically
Like most websites, our hosting and analytics tools record basic technical information when a page loads: the pages requested, rough location derived from an IP address, the referring site, and general details about your browser, device, and operating system. We use this in aggregate to see which pages are useful and whether anything is broken. It is not used to identify you personally, and we make no attempt to link it to a name.
Cookies and analytics
We use a small number of cookies and similar browser storage. One remembers that you dismissed the cookie notice, so it stops reappearing on every page. If web analytics is enabled on this site, its cookies record anonymous usage statistics such as page views, session length, and how visitors move between pages. Where analytics is provided by a third party, such as Google Analytics, that provider processes the data under its own privacy policy.
Affiliate partners may also set a cookie when you click an outbound link to a tool, so that a resulting sign-up or purchase is attributed to this site. That cookie is set by the partner, not by us, and it records the referral rather than anything about you personally.
You can refuse or delete cookies in your browser settings, and most browsers offer a private or incognito mode that discards them at the end of a session. Blocking cookies will not stop you reading anything here; at most, the cookie notice may reappear.
Third parties
We do not sell, rent, or trade personal information. Data is shared only with the service providers that make the site work — hosting, content delivery, analytics, and affiliate networks — and only to the extent those services need it. When you follow a link to another site, you are on their property and their privacy policy applies, not ours. We are not responsible for how other sites handle your data.
Your choices
- Block or clear cookies through your browser settings at any time.
- Use your browser's do-not-track or private browsing features.
- Install an analytics or content blocker; the site works fine with one running.
- Ask us what we hold from any correspondence, or ask us to delete it, by emailing [email protected].
Depending on where you live, you may have specific legal rights over your personal data, including rights of access, correction, deletion, and objection. We will honour valid requests made to the address above.
Children
This site is aimed at a general adult audience and is not directed at children. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children. If you believe a child has sent us personal information, contact us and we will delete it.
Security and changes
The site is served over an encrypted connection and we take reasonable steps to protect the limited data we hold, though no method of transmission or storage over the internet is completely secure.
If this notice changes, the revised version will be posted on this page. Continuing to use the site after a change means you accept the updated notice. Questions about any of it go to [email protected]; our funding model is set out in more detail on the about page.
